Convair Electronics PCB202 for 3-way crossovers
For X31, X32 and X35. Dimensions 200 x 150mm.
This board is designed to allow for manufacture of two 2-way 2nd order (12db/octave) crossovers in series, to create an overall 3-way crossover. A full range of components and accessories are available to allow custom crossovers to be manufactured.
Lower Crossover:
L4, L5 and L6 are for the inductors on the low pass of the lower crossover point. Three spaces are allocated so that inductors can be placed in series if necessary to achieve a higher value inductance for lower crossover points. These inductors will carry the load to the main woofer, and are intended (where possible) to be made from 1.25mm or 1.4mm gauge wire. The output from these inductors goes to the LOW output
C13 to C17 are the relevant fixing points for the capacitors use in the low pass of the lower crossover point. Multiple capacitors can be placed in parallel to achieve the desired overall capacitance. Using more than one capacitor has the added benefit of a lower ESR.
C1 to C5 are for the capacitors for the high pass section of the lower crossover point, againt multiple parallel capacitors can be used.
L1 is for the inductor of the high pass section of the lower crossover point. Typically this will carry a much smaller load than L4, L5 and L6 so therefore only one space is allocated and smaller gauge wire (typically 0.9mm) is used to achieve the required inductance.
The high pass output from C1 to C5 is then cascaded through to the second crossover to apply the higher crossover point.
Upper (higher frequency) Crossover:
L2 is for the inductor for low pass of the second crossover, with C10 to C12 the corresponding capacitors for this part of the circuit. The output from L2 goes to the MID output.
The second high pass section is cascaded from the high pass of the first section via C6 and C7 which are the fixing points for the capacitors for this part of the circuit. L3 is the corresponding inductors for the upper high pass circuit.
For second order high pass section, a link wire need to be fitted between the middle hole next to L3 on the board and the hole just below this wihich connects to HIGH out.
It is also possibly to have a third order high pass section, by utilising C8 and C9 fixing points for additional capacitors - in this instance the link wire would be fitted to the upper hole.
We have a selection of components available which have been designed to work with these boards:
Convair Electronics Inductors
Convair Electronics Capacitors**please note some of the larger 250V capacitors are slightly overside for some boards
Convair Electronics PCB Accessories
Other configurations are possible, but may require modification of the board - we recommend using the board as it has been designed.
A future revision of this board will allow space for attenuation resistors and L-pad networks for the mid and high sections. At this time it is necessary to apply any required attenuation externally to this board.
